Courtyard Bar
The Courtyard Bar was an evolution of design — from the initial discussions to reinvent the existing beer garden, to creating a completely watertight space that can be open to the elements on those perfect spring and summer days — a true “brasserie meets courtyard bar” concept.
This hospitality interior design project serves as the social hub of the venue, becoming a conduit between the traditional and historic building and its vibrant new offerings. The heroes of this elevated and inviting space are the large fluted glass façade and two operable roofs, creating a strong connection to the outdoors and allowing natural sunlight to flood the space.
We see the Courtyard Bar wearing many hats — as a pre- or post-dinner destination, a light-filled lunch spot, a cosy
winter afternoon escape, or a completely private, bookable function space designed to be enjoyed year-round.
We implemented bold colour throughout the interior, and this, paired with the warm palette of walnut timbers, fluted glass and natural stone, creates visual balance with a slightly unexpected edge.
There were many technically challenging joinery details designed for this space, which kept the builder on their toes but allowed the design to reach its full potential. From the large walnut sliding doors, to the fluted glass tilt-up panels over the bar, and the operable wall panels either side of the fireplace that seamlessly conceal large screens for major events or sporting occasions — this is a space designed to adapt to any season or event.
